Beepball Tournament Raises
over $13,000
to support
Minds Eye Listeners!
The adrenaline was pumping and rain
threatened on Sunday, June 29th, just
minutes before the Ultimate St. Louis
Beepball Championship game. The St. Louis
Beepbirds were there to defend their title as
Champions and Allsup was back to challenge
them for the second year in a row.
Volunteers mingled with spectators, passing
out programs and selling t-shirts and 50/50
raffle tickets, while the teams went through
practice and warm-up routines.
Once the rain subsided, the skies opened up
and the game began. Allsup indeed proved
that they meant business, and after six innings
of both teams swinging at beeping balls,
running to beeping bases, and diving for
beepballs, Allsup was victorious, claiming the
title of Ultimate St. Louis Beepball Champions.
Following the third inning of the game and
the last inning, spectators had the opportunity to participate in the game of
beepball through “Bat for Bucks.” For a
small donation, spectators had the chance to
take a few swings at the beepball, proving
that it is not as easy to hit a beepball as it
looks, especially when blindfolded! This“funraiser” within a fundraiser proved to be
a wonderful way for fans to connect with
players and, on a small level, experience life
the way Minds Eye listeners experience their
lives every day.
The day ended with a picnic to celebrate
the efforts of both Allsup and the St. Louis
Beepbirds. After the dust settled and
everything was added up, the Beepball
Tournament raised over $13,000 in support
of Minds Eye – enough money to support
279 listeners for the year! Perhaps more
importantly, the event allowed community
members to come together to support one
another and have a great time!
Minds Eye is grateful to everyone who
participated in the Minds Eye Second Annual
St. Louis Beepball Tournament and to all
supporters and sponsors, including Allsup,
Edward Jones, Lighthouse for the Blind,
Friends of Minds Eye, Clarkson Eyecare,
CBIZ Network Solutions, and the Belleville
News Democrat. Anyone interested in
participating in or supporting the 2009
Beepball Tournament should contact Minds
Eye at 618-394-6221.
