Nearly everyone has picked up the bat and stepped up to the plate, heart pounding, waiting for the pitcher to release the ball from his fingers. The rush you get when the bat makes contact with the ball and you run to first base, reaching it just before the left fielder throws the ball back to the first baseman is indescribable. Take away vision, and what kind of game do you have? You have Beepball.

Teams from all over the St. Louis region will gather on May 22 and 23 to compete in Minds Eye’s Fourth Annual Beepball Tournament. Their Goal: to earn the right to play in the Ultimate St. Louis Beepball Championship at GCS Stadium on June 13. They’ll play baseball, only blindfolded.

The Minds Eye Beepball Tournament will do what few other sports do: put players who are totally and partially blind on the same playing field, literally and figuratively, as players with full sight. Proceeds from the event benefit Minds Eye Information Service and our mission to provide newspapers, magazines and books to people with visual impairments.

Teams from Allsup, Lighthouse for the Blind, Dermassociates Ltd., Clarkson Eyecare, and Friends of Minds Eye are currently scheduled to participate and more are needed.
