Soiree pour la Vue

Please mark your calendars to attend Minds Eye’s Soiree pour la Vue on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Moulin Events and Meetings. The evening will include wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, entertainment, and silent and live auctions, with all proceeds benefitting Minds Eye. Tickets start at $35 and can be reserved by calling or e-mailing Minds Eye.

The upcoming Soiree will feature an all-new cast of wines, with a selection for every palette. “The selection of wines that will be featured at the Soiree this year cannot be purchased at a store and has never been offered at a previous Soiree, thus making the tasting a truly unique experience,” said Kathleen Gutting, Minds Eye’s Community Resource Specialist.

In addition to a wonderful wine selection, the Soiree will boast some incredible auction items, including restaurant packages, private wine tasting parties, free Lasik eye procedures from Eggleston Lasik, tickets to Disney parks, wine baskets and more. Guests will also enjoy must-see entertainment by Kramer’s Marionettes and be guided through the evening’s festivities by KSDK Meteorologist Mike Roberts.

The Soiree is guaranteed to be a fun, entertainment-packed event. Soiree tickets are a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for friends of Minds Eye. What could be better than a gift of food, fun, entertainment, friends, and a donation to a great cause, all rolled into one? The Soiree committee and Minds Eye staff look forward to spending this evening with you!

If I’m a cell phone, then January is my recharger. Through the holidays, I’m running, running, running, making sure my family is taken care of, making sure that I make it to all of the get-togethers and appointments, and making sure that Minds Eye is still hitting the mark for our listeners. By the time January rolls around, it is just about time for my batteries to be recharged. This January, there
is no time to rest! I’m happy to announce to you that Minds Eye is now offering our great readings of magazines, newspapers, and books to our listeners at our website, mindseyeradio.org. This is something that has been in the works for a few years now and
thanks to a few wonderful donors, superb IT assistance, and a lot of patience, it is ready to go!

Like many people, I’m sure your first question is how do blind people use the Internet? Many of our blind listeners use screen reader software, or a program that reads the words on the screen to them, this enables them to navigate around different websites. Low vision listeners often use screen magnification software that enlarges the text and other things on the screen. You’ll notice that Minds Eye’s website is plainer than most, and we have designed it like that so that our listeners are able to navigate it as well as our sighted fans do.

Now our listeners will be able to listen to our programming live either on their radios or on our website. Better yet, they will even be able to enjoy our shows at their convenience on our website. This means our listeners interested in grocery ads won’t have to be sitting at their radio at 10:00 p.m. on Monday or 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, they will be able to sit at their computer at any time to listen to the latest deals at our local stores!

This additional part of our service will be available to both new and long time listeners. All a listener will need to do is go to our website and sign up for the online programming. Once we determine that they are a qualified listener, they will get a username and password and will have access to all of our programming!

So this January, you won’t see any of us here at Minds Eye resting, we’ll be busy again! I hope you can help us spread the word about
our newest addition to our website and about all the other things happening at Minds Eye that you’ll read about in this newsletter, like our Soiree!
