Minds Eye Can Bank on Angela Banks One of the many highlights of the Minds Eye volunteer
reading program is that it is flexible. Volunteers have
many programs to choose from and various windows of
time to read their programs, which means that volunteer
readers can select programs that meet their interests and Angela is going on her second year at Minds Eye and has truly found her place with the organization. She is reliable, coming to Minds Eye regularly to read a wide variety of programming including TV Highlights and The National Enquirer, and never leaves before putting a smile on each staff members’ face. She takes time to talk to the staff and recognizes the fact that there are 11,000 listeners relying on her. Additionally, Angela is one of the newest members of the Beepball Committee. “I think it’s important for people to know that Minds Eye is a service that really impacts people’s lives. When I talk to people about what Minds Eye does, many people never knew that such a service existed. Reading a magazine, newspaper, or even coupons or ads is something most people take for granted. Hearing about Minds Eye opens people’s minds and they get interested to learn more about the organization. I feel as though the more people learn and know about Minds Eye, the greater opportunity there is for Minds Eye to grow and do more for its listeners.” When Angela is not volunteering at Minds Eye she is
working as a “barista and server extraordinaire” or walking
her furry friend, Sawyer, around town. She enjoys
listening to music, watching movies and has a passion for
reading. “I love to read,” she says. “A comfy chair, a The staff at Minds Eye is grateful that Angela has chosen our organization as yet another place to learn and grow. We can depend on her to be reliable, passionate and infectiously warm and friendly.. |

The Saint Louis Globe-Democrat & St. Louis Beacon Hour If you listen to the TV and radio news media and sometimes even the print media you will be sure to hear that newspapers are headed the way of the dinosaur. However, publishers and new start up media outlets have been branching out and finding new ways to present the news to those who still like to read. In December, Minds Eye’s Program Schedule underwent
a makeover to incorporate a brand new show and a
new spin on an old paper. The St. Louis Globe-Democrat
and the St. Louis Beacon, both online only newspapers,
have found a home at 8 p.m. Monday through Friday on During the hour, volunteers read equal amounts from both sources balancing news, opinion, and sports and provide listeners with an evening newspaper. Longtime St. Louisians remember the Globe-Democrat, which folded in 1986, as a fierce competitor to the Post Dispatch. In December, the Globe-Democrat reappeared on the local media landscape much to the cheer of many who had long loved the daily paper. The St. Louis Beacon had been a twice-weekly part of Minds Eye’s schedule for over a year. The Beacon, which was started by many Post Dispatch expatriates, is following the growing non-profit media model and focuses on in-depth analysis of stories that are not usually found elsewhere.
