The Father Boni Wittenbrink, OMI Legacy Society

The Fr. Boniface Wittenbrink Legacy Society honors the philanthropic leadership and vision of individuals who have remembered Minds Eye Information Service in their estate plans and other planned gifts.

On March 1, 1973 with boundless faith, about 10 radio receivers, a few volunteers, and limited operating capital, Father Boniface Wittenbrink, OMI founded WMRY Radio Information Service. Fr. Boni, as he prefers to be addressed, is fond of telling people that when he began his new assignment, all he knew about blindness was “you couldn’t see” and all he knew about radio was “how to turn it on and change the batteries.” But like the other assignments he was given as Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate , he learned— about radio technology and the visually impaired who would benefit from his ministry. Without prior experience in management or broadcasting Fr. Boni created a radio station, now named Minds Eye Information Service, which has benefited thousands of blind and print disabled people throughout the greater St. Louis Metro East area.

As a means to sustain the ministry Fr. Boni began back in 1973, the Fr. Boniface Wittenbrink Legacy Society was established to carry on his work serving the blind and print disabled in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area..
