GRAB YOUR BAT, STEP UP TO THE PLATE, AND CLOSE YOUR EYES: MINDS EYE INFORMATION SERVICE HOSTS SECOND ANNUAL BEEPBALL TOURNAMENT
Research says one of the most difficult things to do in sports is to hit a fastball, but have researchers ever tried to hit a fastball blindfolded? Now that is competition at its best! But who would ever think of going up to the plate wearing a blindfold? Beepball players, that’s who!
Minds Eye Information Service, a nonprofit radio reading service for the blind and print disabled of the St. Louis area, will host their Second Annual Beepball Tournament presented by Allsup, Inc. May 3rd, May 4th, and May 17th, with the Ultimate Beepball Championship on June 29th at the GCS Stadium in Sauget, Illinois.
Beepball, simply stated, is baseball for the blind and visually impaired. Players must try to hit a beeping ball while blindfolded, then run to the base that is beeping before a fielder, also blindfolded, tracks down the screaming ball. This year, Allsup Inc., Edward Jones, Lighthouse for the Blind, and the Friends of Minds Eye will battle it out to see who will play the St. Louis Beepbirds, a team of blind and visually impaired players, in the Ultimate St. Louis Beepball Championship at Grizzly Stadium!
Minds Eye invites everyone to come out and experience Beepball. Tournament games for the West Side teams will be held at St. Simon the Apostle in Affton, MO on May 3rd beginning at Noon. Tournament games for the East Side teams will be held at Laderman Park in Belleville, IL on May 4th beginning at Noon. The East-West Championship will be held at Laderman Park on May 17th beginning at Noon. Finally, the Ultimate Beepball Championship game will take place at the GCS Stadium in Sauget, IL on
June 29th beginning at 2 p.m.
