GAME DAY IS TODAY: ULTIMATE ST. LOUIS BEEPBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

It seems unlikely that a group of blind, visually impaired, and blindfolded people would be ideal participants for a game of softball, but when the balls beep, the bases beep, and the players listen carefully, it is a perfect game of beepball!  Minds Eye Information Service will host the Ultimate St. Louis Beepball Championship today at 2:00 p.m. at the GCS “Grizzlies” Stadium in Sauget, Illinois.  This event is free and open to the public.

Beepball, simply stated, is baseball for the blind and visually impaired.  Players must try to hit a beeping ball while blindfolded, then run to the base that is beeping before a fielder, also         blindfolded, tracks down the beeping ball.  This year, Allsup, Edward Jones, Lighthouse for the Blind, and the Friends of Minds Eye played against one another in a series of tournament games to determine who would challenge the St. Louis Beepbirds on June 29.  Allsup proved victorious, securing their spot in the Ultimate St. Louis Beepball Championship against the St. Louis       Beepbirds, a team of blind and visually impaired players,

In addition to enjoying a beepball game, fans will have the opportunity to enter a 50/50 drawing and will even have the chance to step up to the plate themselves.  For the small donation, fans can “Bat for Bucks” to find out how good their auditory softball skills are!

All proceeds from Beepball will directly benefit Minds Eye Information Service, a non-profit, closed circuit radio station for the blind and print disabled that broadcasts readings of magazines, newspapers, books, and store advertisements.  Beepball is sponsored by Allsup, Edward Jones, Clarkson Eyecare, CBIZ Network Solutions, and the Belleville News Democrat.  For more        information, call 314-241-3400, ext. 6221 or 618-394-6221, email mindseye@oblatesusa.org, or go to www.mindseyeradio.org.
