Internships

Internships are available at Minds Eye Information Service for the summer, fall, and spring terms. Students are considered on an ongoing basis though the application deadlines are June 1 for the summer, August 15 for the fall, and December 1 for the spring. All internships are unpaid, but do include limited benefits and great experience.

Minds Eye Information Service Radio Production Intern
Job Description

  • Interns will learn about radio reading services and general radio broadcasting.
  • Work control board and computer equipment
  • Work with Program Director to develop ideas and secure guests for call in program.

Requirements

  • Volunteers must complete an in person interview and criminal background check before beginning service.
  • Education or experience in radio broadcasting standards.
  • Students majoring in Radio, Mass Communication or related fields preferred.
  • Prospective interns will be asked to audition.

Minds Eye Information Service Listener Outreach Intern
Supervised by the Community Outreach Specialist
Job Description

  • Interns will call blind and print disabled listeners to complete a 10-minute survey that covers which programming preferences, demographic information, and general satisfaction with the service.
  • Record and analyze data observed to make conclusions about audience to assist in program and fund development

Requirements

  • Volunteers must complete an in person interview and criminal background check before beginning service
  • Cheerful phone presence
  • Clear voice
  • Ability to communicate with the elderly
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Students majoring in Social Work, Geriatrics, Marketing, or Communication or related fields are preferred.

Community Outreach Interns
Supervised by the Community Outreach Specialist
Job Description

  • Represent Minds Eye at health fairs and hospitals, set up and take down displays and speak to visitors about service.
  • Contact health and eye care professionals and discuss service of Minds Eye for their patients.
  • Manage lists of healthcare professionals interested in providing services for patients and ensure they are fully stocked with up to date materials.

Requirements

  • Volunteers must complete an in person interview and criminal background check before beginning service
  • Professional demeanor
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Students pursuing Social Work, Health Science, or Marketing or related fields degrees preferred
